Program Details
Learn about the history of this archipelago, their aboriginality, their socio-political relationship with the United States of America, and the ecological diversity of its natural resources. The wonders are limitless and the opportunity to learn how to care for them and others are in your hands during this tour. You can only be enriched in this one in a lifetime experience and make lifelong memories.
We give students the opportunity to get out of their comfort zones, learn more about themself and Puerto Rico, and return home with more confidence and skills to handle whatever comes next. Students will have the opportunity to:

Make an impact and get hands on experience in sustainability and conservation in the Puerto Rican archipelago

Work with locals on these global challenges and explore the ecosystems and communities they are trying to conserve

Learn about the aboriginal people, the Tainos.

The chance to improve and practice your Spanish skills, since Spanish is Puerto Rico’s first language, but not to worry there's a strong bilingual community that will speak English to you, if needed.

Tuition includes all in-country expenses, including airport pick-up and drop off, transportation within Puerto Rico, lodging, 3 meals per day, as well as all planned cultural activities, lectures, and excursions. Students will also have access to professional full-time staff and experts during the program.

Community Service
Our volunteer opportunities amplified the lessons educators teach in the classroom by enabling hands-on, real-world experiences that open students minds and help them become more well-rounded. We will work with local nonprofit organizations specialized in social justice (Taller Salud and Alianza de Mujeres Viequenses), also sustainability and conservation (Para la Naturaleza).
Immersive Learning
Your immersive learning will weave the lectures on anthropology and archaeology of the original people of Puerto Rico. Socio political understanding of a forever colony. Culinary arts showcasing local recipes, some self care practices and social emotional learning. Cultural exchange through music, dance and arts.You will visit some historical landmarks that will help you see where some of this history took place like Old San (El Morro and Castillo San Cristobal) and Ponce (Hacienda Buena Vista).
Adventure
As an tropica Island Nation, Puerto Rico is full of diversity and adventures. You will enjoy the very unique experience of kayaking the bioluminescent bay in the municipal island of Vieques. You will visit El Yunque and explore the biodiversity of the rainforest. Also you will go on a hiking expedition and swim under the caves of the Tanama river. And, YES! You will get to swim incredible crystal water beaches.
Lodging
The students' home base on this program will consist of 4 different locations. Arrival and departure days will be hosted at a hotel close to the airport. In addition students will stay in different lodgings including College dorms, family-owned compounds called “Paradores” and hotels. Students will share rooms with roommates, and have access to share bathrooms. Seasonal, local, healthy and very tasty food will be served including meat, rice, beans, vegetables and fruit. Also we can tailor the menu considering any food sensitivities or dietary restrictions that are notified prior to the stay.
